With vocal stylings similar to the likes of Sam Cooke & Al Green, and a heart dedicated to service, John Xavier Polk has spent his life uplifting others through music and ministry. Born to the esteemed Bishop John A. and Pastor Catherine B. Polk in Orlando, Florida, John’s journey began in the pews of his family’s church. There, as a young boy, he joined the youth choir, captivating congregations with his soulful sound. Determined to contribute more, he taught himself to play the drums, mimicking his father’s rhythmic style—a skill he would later master in service to his church.
As John grew, so did his desire to serve in new ways. He left his Florida roots for Texas, answering a call to duty in the U.S. Army. It wasn’t long before his voice, now commanding and clear, was leading cadence during rigorous training. But even amidst military life, John’s passion for music remained strong. While stationed in Killeen, Texas, he rejoined the church choir, crafting his artistry and refining his gift for connecting with audiences.
Following his Army service, John returned to Orlando with a renewed mission: to blend his talent and faith into a ministry of music. John’s musical journey took a transformative turn when a chance encounter at a Women’s Day Program led to the creation of Voices of Life Ministry. This collaboration became the cornerstone of his career, earning widespread acclaim across Florida. In 2012, their first EP, *The Prelude*, marked John’s official entry into the music industry.
As the group evolved, John reimagined its identity. In 2013, Voices of Life Ministry became JP & 1Voice, a powerhouse ensemble known for electrifying performances, including regular appearances at the renowned "World Famous Gospel Brunch" at House of Blues Orlando. Their success opened doors for John to form other influential groups, such as the all-male gospel collective #TheBrotherhood and become a musical director for the House of Blues house band, UNiTY.
John’s artistry has taken him to incredible heights—from performing as a background singer for Lou Gramm on national television to wowing audiences at Walt Disney World. He’s shared stages with legends like Donnie McClurkin and brought his music to international audiences in Rome and across Italy. In 2019, he was able to form his own outlet JP & The Soul Voices to perform for a Winter Gospel Tour in Italy. He would repeat this accomplishment in 2021-2023.
In 2021, John’s journey led him to Denver, Colorado, where he continues to thrive. Whether leading as the frontman for Denver’s Radio Band, captivating crowds with Mile High Soul Collection, or building new sounds with JP & The Elements, John’s legacy remains one of soul, service, and unwavering passion. He embodies the belief that music isn’t just heard—it’s felt.
